HOW WE SUMMER

HOW WE SUMMER

what we’re doing and wearing and reading right now

summer is all about experiences first.

(or it should be, anyway.)

it’s a time when we like our style like we like our schedule: easy, breezy and up for anything. but those schedules don’t always slow down when the temperatures heat up, so we’re conducting an unofficial poll amongst girl friends and lady crushes and cool customers (all of whom are often one and the same, amazingly), asking the question: how do you enjoy summer?

first up? our founders. here, what hannah and nancy are doing and wearing and reading from now through September.

it’s sweet, sweet summertime. any secrets for maximizing this too-short season?

“getting up early and exercising. and rosé at sunset.” - hannah

“what hannah said! and going to the farmer’s market each week.” - nancy

on your reading list?

Salt by Nayyirah Waheed.” - hannah

"Survival Math by Mitchell S. Jackson. and I have a lofty list for summer: Code Girl by Liza Mundy, The Map of Salt & Stars by Jennifer Zeynab Joukhadar, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, A Place for Us by Fatima Farheen Miraz and Washington Black by Esi Edugyan. we’ll see how much i get through — let’s talk again in September!” - nancy

on steady rotation in your wardrobe?

the icon shirt: it’s just so versatile. i layer it over dresses and leggings to up-level my crunch to brunch look. i never feel like the sweaty mess that i actually am.” - hannah

the white shirt: simple, comfortable and always chic.” - nancy

“oh, and excellent shoes! summer pieces tend to be more simple so having killer shoes does the trick. …i totally stole that style tip from nancy — her shoe collection is so on point.” - hannah

it’s a perfect summer evening, and you are…

“up at our mountain house in Downieville, cooking a fresh dinner just picked from our garden. i love entertaining there — everyone pitches in and we cook with what is ready in the garden. arugula, sugar peas, early tomatoes, and corn later in the summer. we have an amazing raspberry patch that yields a gallon or two a day in peak summer, so meals are often topped off with a raspberry-something dessert.” - nancy

“at Ordinare in Oakland enjoying a leisurely glass of natty wine at one of the old-school desks — the playlist is always '90s r&b and that is my JAM. then on to dinner at my friend’s casa, where the cooking is phenomenal and the back garden is magical and the conversation is PERFECT. i don't cook but i can pick a good bottle of natural wine.” - hannah
